"We encourage the staff to work just their basic hours," the firm explains, and this 40-hour week means people don't spend too much time at work (74%) and have reasonable deadlines (84%, another top five ranking). Technetix, based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, provides its technology and services to leading cable operators internationally, and was founded by chief executive Paul Broadhurst in 1990. Although it has developed into a global operation, it still focuses on the small details at home, with counselling for people who are trying to give up smoking, caterers serving healthy lunches, exercise classes advertised on the notice board and a company breakfast kicking off the working day once a month. Other touches include a team workshop held in Amsterdam, a Christmas dinner-dance, and seasonal hampers for all to say thank-you for people's efforts during the recent difficult trading period. There's smooth teamwork with no disruptive individuals (88%) and no sense that anyone is being taken advantage of (74%).
