Tees Law believes in the power of the body as well as the power of the mind, so staff were encouraged to take part in two physical challenges during lockdown.

For the Tees Step Challenge, the team covered a total of more than 100 million paces – the equivalent of twice round the globe – to raise money for Mind. Red January saw them participate in 30 minutes of physical activity each day for 30 days in support of Sport in Mind.

Tees Law has 325 staff in Brentwood, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Royston, Saffron Walden and Bishop's Stortford, where the firm was founded 108 years ago. It provides legal services and independent financial advice to individuals, families and businesses.

The group managing director kept all members of the team updated via daily emails during the early months of lockdown. As the pandemic progressed, the leadership team moved to a weekly email and a monthly pre-recorded business update video.

The HR team had regular check-ins with staff, including managers, and took part in surgery sessions to deal with any questions and concerns about Covid-19 and returning to the office. Blended working eased the transition from WFH and will ensure everyone can obtain the right work/life balance going forward.

During the pandemic the heads of department each set up a management team, comprising all the managers in their departments. These met on a regular basis not only to give updates on business matters but to support one another mentally and share knowledge.
