TSL EDUCATION GETS a good report from staff whose positive responses to our engagement survey rank it as one of the best companies to work for in the country. Employees believe they can make a valuable contribution to the success of this digital education business, returning an 82% positive score. The 269 staff work across 14 brands, including the TES Connect website, home to the world's largest network of teachers, and its online TES Resources bank containing more than 500,000 lesson plans, in excess of 2m of which are downloaded a week. TSL Education aims to improve standards of education from primary school to university and the independent, private equity-backed award-winning business, which started out more than 100 years ago as a supplement in The Times, engenders pride among staff (80%), who believe it makes a difference to the world (70%). New employees are invited to lunch with the chief executive and at least one TSL business-wide meeting, and the company hosts a “first Thursday” event at a local pub or restaurant. Team success is celebrated with a specially-made cake and last September a summer party was held at the Roof Gardens in Kensington in another show of appreciation for the efforts of staff, whose positive scores place the London-based firm 10th in our Fair Deal category. Just 24 people earn less than £25,000 and 44% make more than £45,000, including web developers. Employees are happy with their pay and benefits (75%) which include free private healthcare and a contributory pension scheme into which TSL adds 11% of pay. Those who have worked for the company for 10 or more years get a financial reward and dinner at the Ivy.
