TEACHERS AT THE Blackpool Sixth Form College are happy to go the extra mile for their students. In fact, last year one teacher went an extra 26.2 miles, after deciding to support students tackling the London marathon by running it himself. As well as raising money for charity, this demonstrates staff's commitment to the 1,900 students. The workforce strongly cares about providing a great service, giving a 97% positive score which ranks the college top of the small organisations on our list. Staff believe that the institution offers an excellent service (83%) and Ofsted agrees — last year the inspection of the college judged it to be outstanding. Employees also believe the institution makes a positive difference to the world (74%). The 207 staff feel they can make a difference at the college and say their job is an important part of who they are, with two 77% scores ranking it fifth and second among small institutions respectively. Managers regularly express their appreciation when a job is done well (71%), and motivate staff to give their best every day (59%, a top 10 score). People go out of their way to help each other (78%) and have fun working together (77%). The organisation hold a formal Christmas event for all staff to attend. They also have regular gatherings including visits to the races. They hold an annual awards event and nominations are made by staff, the winners are decided by a panel of judges. The staff social committee receive a budget of £2000 per year to organise events.
My team is fun to work with
External courses are provided to employees. The organisation also offers internal staff development where staff can pick and mix their programme. Teaching staff are supported in completing a PGCE and given teaching sessions to allow them to complete this successfully. Other qualifications have been supported where staff have been given time off site to attend college or a training venue. The college will also pay a contribution to course fees.
