With approximately 2,500 staff, Thurrock Council is one of the biggest employers in the Essex borough. Under the banner of People, Place, Prosperity, it is creating a place that people are proud to live in, and where businesses want to thrive and developers want to invest. Good roads, health services, schools and leisure facilities are needed to enable residents and staff to work, play, live and stay in the borough.
The authority engages with staff, 67% of whom live in Thurrock, to inform them how it delivers services. It also offers development opportunities to ensure they are equipped with the right skills, behaviours and attitudes to enable them to work in a fast-paced and changing environment.
As a public-sector organisation, a variety of benefits and rewards are offered to staff, including discounts given by local providers and access to health and wellbeing support initiatives across the borough.
Thurrock Council serves 174,000 residents, 66,000 households and more than 5,000 businesses. It provides 700 services to residents and businesses every day. These include social care, refuse collections, public health, parks and open spaces, planning, school places, highways, parking, housing, economic growth and business support.
Its ambition continues to be to create a high-performing, open and inclusive culture where innovation and creativity is encouraged and nurtured. Its staff are at the heart of its strategy and are agile, engaged, capable, resilient, compassionate and innovative.
It collaborates with residents in co-producing services and with the community to achieve its goals.
