As a company that advises others on employee benefits, Towry Law knows a bit about what it takes to perk up staff for peak performance. Every employee is made a shareholder when they join the organisation and workers are allocated an allowance each year to spend as they choose on the firm's online benefits package. People can buy or sell holiday and purchase items such as electrical goods, clothing or financial products including healthcare or dental cover. On top of that the Bracknell headquarters has a gym, while staff at other offices have access to local gyms, with membership paid by Towry Law, which they are encouraged to use during the working day. It's not surprising then that employees would thoroughly recommend the company as a place to work, earning the firm a 79% positive score in our survey. Founded in 1958, Towry Law specialises in providing wealth management and financial planning strategies for private individuals, and employee benefits consultancy services to small and medium-sized companies. Acquired in 2006 by John Scott and Partners, the company has expanded further in the past year with a series of acquisitions that have made its 512 staff in 10 offices in the UK feel excited about where the organisation is going (86%, a top five result). At the root of this contentment is strong leadership. The firm ranks an impressive 14th out of all 100 companies on this factor. Staff have confidence in the leadership skills of the senior management (81%) and particularly in the man at the top. They have a great deal of faith in Andrew Fisher (85%), the chief executive, and think he runs the business on sound moral principles (81%). Fisher and other members of the executive committee visit branches on a regular basis and provide face-to-face updates on business progress and initiatives. There is also scope to ask questions of Fisher and the senior team through the intranet, and this can be done on an anonymous basis. Employees believe the experience they gain is valuable for the future (76%). There is a policy of encouraging them to move to different departments within the company, together with good training on offer. The Towry Law masters programme is dedicated to the development of all staff members and provides the support for people to improve their skills, knowledge and experience. The firm pays for people to enter exams and gives them a cash bonus if they complete them successfully. All managers also receive specific training for their roles and are partnered with senior staff, who mentor them. Team spirit is one of the company values and is actively encouraged and financially rewarded. As a result employees have fun with their colleagues (78%) and go out of their way to help one another (77%). The Towry Law Charitable Trust supports staff fundraising efforts on behalf of registered charities, and anyone undertaking such efforts on behalf of good causes receives a minimum £150 donation. To help its workforce lead a healthy life, Towry Law gives people access to a free stop smoking programme and a cycle-to-work scheme. Employees, one in five of whom earns in excess of £55,000, say they would not leave tomorrow even if they had another job to go to (79%).
