The Toyota success story is built on innovation, both in terms of its products and the processes by which they are made. Toyota (GB) is the national marketing and sales function for Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the UK, responsible for all sales, marketing, after sales and customer relations nationwide.
The organisation is a firm believer in supporting the health and wellbeing of its people. Wellbeing passports help employees record important wellbeing information in their own words. From how they might act on a difficult day, to things that they enjoy and make them feel at their best. This lets managers know how best to support someone at work.
Toyota GB also provides employees with access to Unmind; a free wellbeing tool which enables employees to measure, record and maintain their mental health. Podcasts with celebrities, sleep stories, mini meditations and workout videos – the app has something for everyone to support wellbeing.
An on-site Wellbeing Ambassador also provides a more holistic approach. She runs regular support groups and wellbeing training programmes, along with free PT sessions in the gym and grounds. Mindful meditation sessions are available during the day for employees, or for candidates to relax before an interview. A trained life coach, she can support issues from health concerns to advice for dealing with stressful situations.
The organisation also has trained Mental Health First Aiders who have been valuable in its transition to hybrid working and who are available to employees whenever they need a confidential chat or advice.
My team is fun to work with
Toyota GB provides its teams with a team engagement “budget for fun”. This enables teams to get together and do something unrelated to work for the purpose of team building and strengthening relationships. Just some of the activities teams have done in the past include music quizzes and wine tasting.
I feel proud to work for this organisation
Every employee is given an onboarding plan supported by their manager. This sets out the key learning points in the first 90 days, covering contacts, meetings, tasks, as well as learning and development opportunities. Additionally, they receive a welcome box to give them a few of the things they'll need when joining.
My manager cares about me as an individual
The organisation developed its Management Development Programme which enables managers to coach, support, and manage their teams effectively. Modules include Delegation and Empowerment, an interactive Make It Real Event, Coaching for Performance and Building a High Performing Team. They are also assigned a coach to help them reflect on and embed the learning between modules.
