Trifast prides itself on treating its staff as internal customer. This helps create a positive atmosphere at the company, which makes industrial fasteners and operates a logistics business that allows other firms to manage their supply chain. Principal customers are in the computer, electronics, motor and telecommunications industries. It has three plants in Britain (at Uckfield, Telford and Northampton) and three in the Far East. Globally there are 20 distribution centres delivering to client companies. Distribution earns 63% of revenue. Trifast offers the same benefits to part timers and full timers, including health insurance, a pension funded entirely by the company (at 5% of pay) and enhanced maternity benefits: new mothers with five years' service receive full pay for six weeks and a return to work bonus of £500. At weekly team meetings, staff are encouraged to make suggestions for improvements. More than 90% say that management trust them to do a good job without watching over their shoulder. 'There is a buzz about Trifast which I have never felt anywhere else' says one worker.
