In 1960, former Second World War Spitfire pilot, Frank Vindis, a Czech, set up a family-run car dealership in the heart of a small Cambridgeshire community. Today, Vindis Group is run by his grandson, Jamie, and has 27 sites, along with a head office and fleet centre in Huntingdon and two trade parts divisions in Cambridge and Bishop’s Stortford.

Vindis Group was founded in Sawston as a business committed to delivering exceptional customer service. This ethos has led to its growth and success and it continues to nurture the family values on which it was founded.

It works with some of the most prestigious brands and has a network of Audi, Bentley, Cupra, Ducati, Seat, Skoda, TPS, Volkswagen and Volkswagen commercial vehicles dealerships. Vindis Group also has four Auto Now retailers in East Anglia, selling second-hand vehicles.

The company's success, it says, is down to its 700 exceptional staff and it uses innovative recruitment practices to ensure competent and driven people are employed. As a response to the challenges of the current employment market, the group has adopted more flexible interview and assessment strategies.

The past 18 months have also reinforced the importance of looking after its existing workforce and continuing to provide opportunities for career progression, as well as self-care.

"Success doesn’t come from the business to the staff; it comes from the people that make it what it is today to the company," says managing director Jamie Vindis.

Quote from the top...
The 24th March 2020 represents for us all, a point of our lives that will never be forgotten, and one that can never be undone. For all of the personal, emotional and business challenges that we have had to face over the course of the last 18 months, I am sure that all of us have learned a lot. A lot about ourselves. A lot about our relationships. A lot about what we hold dear and what we truly believe in. For me personally, some of that learning came in the form of reflecting on how proud of our business I am, and how important it is that we remain true to the values that have been the backbone of our success over the last 60 years. In recognition of this, over the course of the last year, the Board of Directors has worked hard to create a bold new Company Vision that can be used to not only set our aspirations for the future but that can also act as a real and tangible guide to how we reach our BHAG – Big Hairy Audacious Goal: “To be The Best Retail Partner in the Automotive Industry”. Over the course of 2021, we have begun work on how we can bring the 6 sides of the Vision Cube “to life” across our business every day and in everyone, and we have begun to share this with you through varied communication channels, such as: the monthly employee update emails, or even through our social media feeds. Having started on this journey in earnest, I believe that we are now ready for something else. Your honest and candid feedback. For nearly 10 years, I have been introducing our Company to new prospective staff, by saying, “I genuinely believe that our business can only be truly successful when we have 700 truly successful individuals working in it”; and the objective of “Become one of the Sunday Times Best 100 Companies to Work For” is included in the Vision for this reason. Success doesn’t come from the business to the staff; it comes from the people that make it what it is today to the Company.
