Housing association VIVID put customer care centre stage during the pandemic.

VIVID, a leading provider of affordable homes in the South of England, asked its staff to make videos that showcased their pride in their work and the difference it makes to others.

The fun films, which featured parodies of Bake Off, M&S adverts, ABBA and Johnny Cash, brought teams together, as well as providing a reminder of the importance of the work they do.

Formed in 2017 following a merger, VIVID provides support to 72,000 customers across Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire and West Sussex.

The not-for-profit plans to add to its portfolio of 31,000 homes by building another 17,000 over the next 10 years.

As well as providing a place its customers can call home, VIVID helps create opportunities for people to improve their lives and their communities.

Its 850-strong workforce is made up of trade operatives, office staff and remote workers and all have an important role to play in realising VIVID's vison of ‘more homes, bright futures'.

Staff benefits include a minimum of 34 days' holiday with flexibility to buy and sell, a 24/7 employee assistance programme and a company-funded cash plan which includes complementary and alternative therapies.

Employees' mental, physical and social health is a priority for VIVID and this is reflected in it winning the CIPD People Management award for best health and wellbeing initiative in 2020

VIVID actively encourages women into careers traditionally dominated by men and has recruited two female apprentices – a carpenter and a plumber. Apprenticeships are also used to upskill existing staff and its 54 apprentices are learning everything from trades to software engineering and the ins and outs of the housing sector

To support customers and communities during the pandemic, VIVID donated £125,000 to local foodbanks. Another £125,000 was used to support activities such as shopping for vulnerable people and combating social isolation and 400 SIM-enabled tablets were given to children to allow them to do their lessons from home.
