Founded as Nationwide Hire in 1995 by Howard Piper, the company, which is based in Fareham, Hampshire, has rebranded as WowNow Hire. It prides itself on being able to guarantee that its five million products will be available to hire anywhere, at any time, which has earned the company enviable customer reviews. Some customers have been using its services for as long as 20 years.
WowNow Hire puts strong emphasis on employee training and development, through a programme of learning that helps people “play to their strengths”. It says the work environment is “energetic” and there is “a great atmosphere”. Benefits include health insurance and social events throughout the year.
The company has a new equality, diversity and inclusion policy that is supported by mandatory training for all staff. Its workforce is made up of 45% men and 55% women. WowNow also listens to its staff and, after feedback, has increased annual leave from 20 to 22 days a year for new starters and accelerated the leave entitlement for anyone who had less than 25 days' leave a year. It has also improved its sick pay scheme, given staff a paid day off on their birthday and provided two, paid half-days a year for volunteering for the nominated company charity.
