Virtually unknown outside the boardrooms of FTSE 100 companies, YSC is the country's top firm of business psychologists so it's little surprise it is able to create a successful environment for its own workforce.
As a testimony to its work culture and ethic, YSC has performed strongly throughout its history, consistently delivering 20% to 35% growth, year on year.
Consultant Sophie Giles sums it up: "YSC is the only psychology consultancy that unfailingly practises what it preaches, the attitude is that we are just doing the humane thing."
Founded in 1990, when business psychology was considered to be more suited to Hollywood than the City, the firm has grown into a global consultancy with offices in London, New York, Sydney and Edinburgh. Clients include Barclays, Tesco, AOL and ICI.
Chief executive Gurnek Bains says: "We've been successful by really allowing people to be themselves and creating an environment which they want to be a part of and is successful in a business sense."
When meeting staff at YSC's plush and vibrantly coloured new offices in the heart of London's Covent Garden, the first thing that becomes apparent is that everyone feels they are contributing to something worthwhile.
Our survey shows 85% of employees are excited about where the organisation is headed and the same amount believe they can make a valuable contribution to the firm's success. In addition, 81% say that their work is an important part of their lives.
The firm's relaxed atmosphere ensures that access to senior management is informal and open. In our survey, 83% of employees say the values and principles of the organisation have been made clear and the same amount feel that their manager talks openly and honestly with them.
The company's benefits package is also outstanding, with performance and profit-related bonuses for all, as well as healthcare for the entire family and help with childcare. Employees also receive a £750 flexi-allowance budget, interest-free season ticket loans, a £5 daily lunch allowance and a contributory pension plan, as well as a
share ownership option after two years' service. Maternity leave is 26 weeks at full pay and those adopting receive the same benefits.
Training is also flexible, with every consultant receiving an annual £2,000 personal development budget and support staff receiving £1,000.
