In 2021, the charity introduced a new Learning & Development approach providing the opportunity or all staff to accrue 40 hours per year of Personal Development. The types of learning that contribute towards the indicative 1-2 hours per week includes formal training such a courses, webinars and volunteer roles, as well as informal training such as work shadowing. This new approach has been worked on by the CEO and a small group of staff, as well as feedback from the employee forum.
The trust was set up in 1995 and new recruits say they can feel the passion and drive to make a difference as soon as they walk in.
Based in Charnwood, Leicestershire, the charity has moved to a remote working model to deliver sports programmes in thousands of UK schools and to guide government policy. Will Roberts, the chief operating officer, said: “We know that playing sport and keeping active can help pave the road to recovery for a generation of children who have seen the most extraordinary disruption to their lives and education.”
The charity's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Management Group (EDIMG), work hard to advance inclusion practise across and beyond Youth Sport Trust, with support from the Senior Leadership Team and Youth Sport Trust Board. Some of the groups key achievements include the development of an organisational Diversity Inclusion Plan focussing on addressing inequalities in their governance and leadership, and embedding EDI training into all staff & board members induction processes.
