Property developers Highwood Group answered the call from a local primary school early this year donating laptops to enable pupils to access online learning during the third national lockdown. It has also given laptops to employees to help home-school their children and, thanks to another donation, the elderly mother of one of the team has now learned to shop online.

Highwood was founded in 1987 as a privately owned company with a commitment to acquire land selectively, build sensitively and sustainably while setting benchmarked standards of design and construction. Its portfolio includes affordable homes in community developments luxury waterside apartments and retirement living, care home and care villages that cater for those requiring specialist care.

Based in Romsey, near Southampton, its operational reach spans the south coast of England, west to east from Bournemouth to Chichester and north to the M25.

Reflecting Highwood's commitment to supporting local communities, it donated surplus personal protective equipment to a local hospice and gave more than £1,000 in Sainsbury's vouchers to Romsey Foodbank to help families who needed support during the lockdown and summer holidays. In December it presented a cheque for £10,000 to its newly adopted charity, Trinity Winchester, which supports the vulnerable and homeless in Winchester.

The leadership team has kept close tabs on how employees are coping with the effects of the pandemic with regular calls and check-ins to ensure their wellbeing is being supported.

Employee recognition awards are given monthly to those who have shown outstanding work.
