FLY-TIPPING, VANDALISM, dog fouling and littering are some of the antisocial acts tackled by Keep Wales Tidy. But apart from striving to instil a sense of pride in people about their surroundings, the organisation goes several steps further. It is aiming to reduce its carbon emissions from work-based transport by 5% a year for three years, while used office stationery is recycled and kitchen waste ends up in a wormery. There is an environmental champion on its board and there are sustainable development and transport policies for staff, who are encouraged to walk and cycle to meetings or use teleconferencing. Staff feel the charity is doing enough to protect the environment, with a top positive score for small organisations of 88%. Keep Wales Tidy, which was established in 2000, has the sixth highest factor score for Giving Something Back (79%). Employees say that profit and budget concerns are not the only things driving the organisation (78%), it puts enough back into the local community (also 78%, and the third best result among small organisations) and it makes a positive difference to the world (89%). The charity has a top 20 factor score for Wellbeing questions of 73%, with staff saying their jobs do not interfere with their duties at home (also 73%), they are not under so much pressure they cannot concentrate (78%, and third) and do not feel exhausted most days (61%, the sixth best result). Staff also say their health does not suffer because of work (81%) and, excluding long-term sickness, the average number of days absent per team member last year was two. People get an extra day's holiday for every five years of service and are happy with their work-life balance (75%). keepwalestidy.org
