A groundbreaking project to tackle the vicious circle of homelessness and unemployment was launched by Fife-based Kingdom Housing Association in 2019. Other associations have since adopted it.
The Naumann Initiative gives homeless people a job, a home and support with any complex needs or barriers to sustaining their tenancy. The project continues at Kingdome this year with the provision of two career pathfinder traineeships and three housing advocacy worker vacancies.
The association, which was formed in 1979, has evolved to meet the growing needs for affordable housing. In keeping with its mission of providing more than a home, Kingdom supplies a variety of enhanced services to tenants and delivers community initiative projects.
Kingdom Housing Association is the parent company of the Kingdom Group, which has two subsidiary organisations. Kingdom Initiatives is a non-charitable subsidiary providing mid-market rented housing. Kingdom Support and Care is a community-interest company that offers a full range of care and support services to help people to live independently in the community.
Kingdom's commitment to delivering an unrivalled service is underpinned by the “values-to-vision” approach that is adopted by staff at all levels. The “Cares” values — customer, accountable, respect, efficient and supportive — are linked with personal objectives and learning-and-development plans, through to the ultimate Vision.
At Kingdom, everyone has an impact and everyone is important. This inclusive culture is infectious. Personal development and growth contributes to the association's development and growth. Dedicated learning and development and health and wellbeing provisions allow everyone to reach their potential.
This job is good for my own personal growth
This year, the association will launch Kingdom Academy, an online platform to support learning across the organisation. It will follow an employee's journey from induction to continuing development throughout their time with Kingdom.
The platform provides short online courses on work-related topics.
My team is fun to work with
The launch of the association's intranet during the pandemic was invaluable as it allowed employees to interact with each other and react to news stories and updates from across the business. One of the key areas is an introduction space where new staff can say hello and be greeted by other employees.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
The association's intranet has been used to launch key health and wellbeing initiatives and there is a central place for our employees to access online mindfulness sessions, Pilates workouts and hand reflexology.
