Teamwork at Wyboston Lakes conference and leisure resort saw Managers taking on a host of new roles while most staff were furloughed or working from home. To host a training event for the local ambulance service in 2020, Senior Managers became Chefs, Housekeepers, Receptionists, Waiters and Kitchen Porters.

The 380-acre complex halfway between Cambridge and Milton Keynes was the first meetings venue in the UK to be approved as Covid-safe and in September 2020 it hosted a government pilot event to showcase its six-figure investment in measures such as thermal imaging cameras, screens in the bars, restaurants, spa and reception, clear signage, PPE, cleaning and social distancing rules.

The resort, which also features a five-star spa, an 18-hole golf course and watersports centre, is a family business now chaired by Chelsey Hutchinson, who has taken over from her father Steve and represents the third generation at the top of the business. Family values flourish throughout the team of 450 employees, 85% of whom are from the local St Neots area.

For the past year, increased communication has been key to maintaining team spirit through the Wybo Weekly Wrap, featuring business updates and wellbeing tips.

In 2020 the business won three awards for its commitment to the environment and is continuing to reduce its carbon footprint with plans for solar and wind power. Spa guests use biodegradable hair towels to reduce laundry.
