People are the driving force at Honda UK, they even top the agenda at management meetings. Known as "associates", staff are actively encouraged to "follow their dreams" and can test-drive the merchandise, from all-terrain vehicles, powerboats and motorcycles to ride-on mowers. Honda UK sells and provides customer support for cars, motorcycles and power equipment through its network of franchised dealers. Employees are encouraged to have respect for each other and treat one another fairly. The message appears to be getting through: they agree with the values of the organisation giving Honda an 87% positive score and a top 10 ranking for this, with an 81% score for running the business on strong principles. Honda offers a respectful working environment in which individuals are instructed to work for themselves first and the company second. Most vacancies are filled internally and a high proportion of employees move between different roles within the organisation. Honda scores highly for personal growth (79%) and staff from head office often man the decks at motor, boat and motorcycle shows. Evidenced by a string of outstanding results from our employee survey, staff are extremely engaged with their employer: they believe they can make a valuable contribution to Honda's success (84%, ranking third overall), they are are excited about where Honda is going (85%, third) and feel proud to work for it (90%, second). Training is strong, most notably via the industry-leading technical apprenticeship scheme offered to school-leavers at the Honda Institute. All staff are entitled to free health insurance for themselves and their families, a dental plan, free gym membership and holiday allowance starts at 25 days per year, rising to 30 days with length of service.
