Everyone has a sustainability objective on their job description. Community initiatives include working at food banks, lunch clubs for kids whose parents can't afford to feed them an extra meal in school holidays, and redecorating a local volunteer centre for disabled adults.

Action Against Hunger gave the company four problems to solve, one for each floor. The company also tackles issues that other companies avoid, including a session on the gender pay gap where innocent shared data and took questions from the audience.

Leaders are approachable and accessible – they sit with everyone else at open-plan desks. Douglas is often there and can be quizzed. They're visible in leading sessions at company meetings, and lunchtime ‘chatwiches'.

Everyone gets £100 each year to spend on anything that involves learning something new. There's one day off per year for charity work, and the winner of ‘Wader of the Month' receives £200 to spend on an experience.

Freebridge Community Housing

Since 2014, Freebridge have run Providence Street community centre in King's Lynn, taking over when it was underused and in decline and turning it into a thriving, refurbished and buzzing resource. The centre provides office space for partners, such as the NHS, and provides a venue for local groups and activities.

The management team are role models for the values and demonstrate them in their engagement, both internally and externally. They have led on the evolution of the values, empowering employees to determine what each value means.

Freebridge have a number of practices in place to ease workplace stress. This includes access to counselling, which helps individuals to address personal stress, and coaching to empower employees to find their own solutions to workplace challenges they may be facing.
