The categories presented are for academic staff, teaching quality, innovation in teaching, research quality, success with research income generation. For professional staff, customer service award, going beyond the call of duty, profiling raising for the school and professionalism. Each prize is worth £1,000 net. Carphone Warehouse (UK Retail & Distribution)

The Carphone Warehouse have an internal training academy and they run workshops on a bi-weekly basis in their support centre. Topics include Problem solving, Insights discovery, Time management, Influencing skills. They have also designed a two day management development programme in partnership with Lane 4 Managing the Best Buy Europe Way Managing the BBE way is delivered in the UK by the MD team. Any people managers from CPW or Best Buy can attend. The workshops run each month, at locations across the country. This is an exciting programme, that will challenge every leader and allows the freedom and openness to take your own personal plans and tactics back to your team

Best Buy Europe is a family and they love to celebrate their achievements and get to know their colleagues across the UK. The Best Buy Europe Ball 2010 was the biggest corporate event of its kind in Europe and was attended by more than 7,000 colleagues. The Hollywood themed 'Premiere' was held at London's Excel Centre and featured performances from N-Dubz, Little Boots and Tinchy Stryder. Each colleague was sent their own personal invitation as a thank you for all their hard work, dedication and support over the past year.

Cambridge Manufacturing Company Ltd

There is an attendance bonus scheme for everyone who hasn't had a day off sick in a year. They get a cheque for £125. They also get entered into a draw and the winner receives £1,800 in addition to the £125 and the runner up receives £600 in addition to the £125. Once an employee has been with Cambridge for 3 months, take along 3 payslips and are given a card for the company shop. They can then purchase food and health and beauty products such as Marks and Spencer food and big bags of sweets!

He and the Operations Manager have already introduced a number of initiatives to increase their recycling streams e.g. waste paper collection bins, plastic baling, metal collection. In addition they have been working with the Carbon Trust to identify means of reducing our Carbon Footprint.

Cambian Group

Cambian provide support for their managers through appraisals and coaching with their HR manager, specifically for HR related processes. Support is identified on an individual basis. Managers have the option to attend seminars, managers forums and any other peer support activities that they wish. All facilities have a CPD budget and allocate accordingly.

Cambian provide several events throughout the year for their staff some of these include the Christmas party and sports day. Staff at Cambian also receive a dinner on achievement of their targets. Staff are provided with clinical away days, manager meetings and evenings.

Through their self service HR information system, all employees can access their total reward statement. This provides instant and current access to Information on all aspects including their salary and benefits package. They have an in-house smoke cessation programme delivered by the NHS to help employees quit smoking They have an NHS delivered Weight No More Programme for all staff to promote all aspects of healthy eating and weight Management. In addition they have a food co-op which delivers fruit and vegetables to our HQ office on a weekly basis. As part of our wellbeing week, we have held food cookery demonstrations to promote health eating options and dishes and our staff cafe sells healthy food options as part of its menu range.

Burgess Hodgson

Burgess Hodgson are a training firm in that they recruit trainee accountants on an annual basis. They believe they are the largest recruiter of trainees in Kent. This makes them unique where other firms only employ qualifieds. They firmly believe on training and promoting from within. This comes at a significant cost. Each trainee costs between £10-15,000 to qualify and they take on four or five a year. At any one time, Burgess Hodgson could have as many as 20 people training for official qualifications.

Burgress Hodgson operates an environment of 'positive' reward. Those staff deemed to have performed exceptionally and delivered service quality beyond their job role are remunerated accordingly. The Leader knows who everyone is and knows a lot about them. He cares very much for them as individuals and has shown his support in numerous ways over the years in times of personal troubles as well as professional difficulties. He took part in the various fund raising events and could be found in the car park each Monday washing cars with everyone else or collecting the entrance fees at the family day. Everyone enjoys the fact that we do not have a heirarchical approach and the Leader himself is very approachable and very passionate about BRITA and the team.

When employees deserve recognition for high achievements then the Department Head or in some cases the Managing Director will send out a communication to the company to recognise the achievement and ensure that the individual's contribution is highlighted to their colleagues. Ad-hoc bonuses are also used where particularly good work has been done. For example, when ISO 9001 accreditation was achieved, the employees who completed the project were given an additional bonus. Ad hoc bonuses have also been paid out for exceptional sales achievements.

BCS LLP operates a Staff Bonus Scheme. Essentially, if the Firm hits its financial target then each member of staff receives a share of those profits. This demonstrates to their people that they truly believe that they play a part in the success of BCS LLP and if they are to action those beliefs then they should be rewarded for the success of the firm as a whole.
