To ‘recruit, develop and retain amazing people’ is one of the key aims of education technology provider Computeam.
The company – which has offices in Stockport and Taunton – knows the exceptional levels of service it offers schools, colleges, local authorities, and Multi-Academy Trusts is down to having a dedicated team that feels valued and listened to.
As a result, it’s strengthened its wellbeing offer and benefits package, including introducing an Employee Assistance Programme giving staff and their families access to mental health and healthy living support.
Staff can also enjoy an extra day’s leave to celebrate their birthdays and a new, low-cost vehicle through an electric car scheme.
And Computeam is constantly reviewing what makes it a great place to work with support from its employee voice panel. And regular engagement surveys also inform the monthly ‘you said, we did’ reports. One outcome has been the launch of a new socials committee to create more opportunities for remote workers and cross-office teams to get together.
The company regularly celebrates its staff with shout-outs in the monthly Compunews and through team ‘incentive budgets’, which can be used for bonuses and treats as well as team building and social events.
And aware that women are under-represented in the tech industry, Computeam is looking to become a ‘Tech She Can’ champion, working with the charity to deliver training sessions to schools as well as continuing to fundraise for it.
I feel I receive fair pay for the responsibilities I have in my job
A profit-share scheme rewards staff in line with company performance. They also benefit from tenure-based shares. Everyone received a cost-of-living bonus, and the company’s employee referral scheme rewards staff with £50 should they recommend a candidate selected for interview. They get a further £250 if the candidate gets the job and passes probation.
This job is good for my own personal growth
Finance apprenticeships are now offered alongside IT technician ones, and the company’s management training programme has undergone its first cycle. The course begins with psychometric sessions to identify strengths and development needs and covers topics like performance management and employee recognition. And all employees can access one week’s worth of paid-for training.
This organisation has a strong social conscience
Computeam has planted more than 11,000 trees and supported 27 climate projects across the globe as a result of its partnership with Ecologi to reduce its carbon footprint and help employees become climate positive. The company’s clients will soon be able to make a small carbon offset contribution as part of their projects.
