The positive aspects of office life have been somewhat forgotten over the past year, for obvious reasons, replaced by visions of hand sanitiser, 'Keep Your Distance' signs and rows of empty desks. It was a change of location, though, that helped transform Newable's work culture.
This large company helps SMEs to thrive by providing essential resources they need to take the next step with their business: funding, advice and space. Its own space turned out to be less than ideal before the big move in 2017.
After staff surveys showed the facilities were not up to standard, Newable chose a 10,000 sq ft space at Barbican in the City of London with the objective of creating a modern, agile, activity-based and collaborative workplace. A year later it won the impact on organisational performance award from the British Institute of Facilities Management.
In post-move surveys, staff celebrated the breaking-down of silos, greater synergy among teams and better collaboration, which created a vibrant working environment that attracts new recruits. The firm aims to grow threefold in five years.
