At the core of the housing association's culture is the motto "One Ongo". All staff are seen as a team, working towards a common goal. To embed this idea, cross-team shadowing, ideas labs and consultation sessions on matters that affect the entire organisation take place. Teams are encouraged to share their best practice and ideas to foster improvement across the whole association.

Agile working is also embodied in the culture, which is about creating an environment of trust and empowerment.

The Ongo Partnership was launched in 2007, when 10,000 homes were transferred to it by North Lincolnshire county council. Its mission is to provide safe and secure homes, but it has expanded to offer more services to help tenants thrive. The association has been able to build more affordable housing, support homeless people and offer employment and training support.

Ongo believes in continually evolving and improving, which means there are many opportunities for staff to develop. On offer are apprenticeships and coaching for aspiring managers. A healthy training budget is also allotted for each person, each year. Other training, such as first aid, mental health first aid and equality and diversity courses, is also available.

Chief executive Steve Hepworth says: "Here are at Ongo, we believe that having happy, motivated and engaged people means we will be able to offer the best possible services to our tenants and customers." Staff are encouraged to have a voice and get involved in all aspects of the business.
