Commerce marketing business SMG wants its people "to be the best versions of themselves", both in and outside of work.
The London-based Group made up of three agencies – Capture, Lobster and Threefold – works with some of the country's biggest retailers, including Co-op and Boots, and well-known brands, like Brewdog and Johnson & Johnson, helping them connect with shoppers at the point of sale.
SMG describes itself as a "career accelerator," giving its team of more than 200 employees the opportunity to grow from day one. The SMG University programme opens with a 'Bachelors' – a two-day induction programme for new starters. Its 'Masters' develops people management skills, and its 'PHD' for senior managers dedicates three days to advanced commercials and leadership. And everyone starting at SMG gets the equivalent of £500 to spend on external training.
And staff don't have to wait for yearly promotion rounds or pay rises at SMG; they happen every month on managers' recommendations. Employees also share in the company's success with bonuses of up to 10 per cent of salary linked to personal and company performance.
Employees are supported to stay motivated and in tip-top condition through the 'Have Fun-d,' which gives employees £100 a month to put towards anything that promotes their wellbeing and personal development, from gym classes to weekly meal subscriptions – anything that "truly supports them to have fun, be happy and stay healthy."
My team is fun to work with
There're plenty of get-togethers, from SMG's summer and Christmas conferences to its recently launched family fun day. And offices are buzzing with mini socials, from pub quizzes and beer o'clocks to Halloween doughnut decorating and Eid celebrations. There are also little surprises like brownie deliveries to raise a smile on Blue Monday.
I love working for this organisation
SMG aims to stand out from the crowd in its recruitment and new starter welcome. It recently advertised an open role to match a wider pool of candidates to a range of positions. And all new recruits get an onboarding pack, including a 'why you' section to remind them why they were chosen.
My organisation encourages charitable activities
Working with a media agency, SMG held a social media workshop for a group of Trussell Trust foodbanks to help them bring in more donations. It also offered a paid summer graduate placement through the Leonard Cheshire Change 100 programme, which matches young people with a disability or long-term condition to progressive employers.
