If you’re a ‘Spacer’, then you have a passion to make a difference.
Spacers are the collective term for all the people who work at Space Architects, all sharing a desire to enjoy what they do, as well as to make a difference in the lives of the people who use the spaces they design.
Established in 1957 by Arnold Waring and Len Netts, the firm was born out of a shared enthusiasm for community architecture. After setting up their first office in Newcastle, they designed local libraries, a swimming pool, the Civic Hall, much needed social housing, as well as many of the city landmarks that remain today. Its reputation for award-winning housing helped the firm move into education and housing, followed by commercial developments in the 1990s.
Today, the core principles of making a difference to society remain at the very heart of the practice, combined with a firm belief in the possibilities great spaces can create.
Within Space Architects, the word ‘staff’ is banned, principally because of the belief it implies there’s a hierarchical structure which simply does not exist. The firm recognises that each and everyone of its people is different, unique and has their own story and needs.
As a values-driven business, diversity and inclusion is part of the culture, with a desire to create a balanced team with the right attitude and skills.
